The Wayne County Community Foundation (WCCF) Board of Trustees approved $5,000 in grant recommendations made by student advisors of the Wayne County Community Youth Foundation (YF) to the following four organizations:
Adaptive Sports Program of Ohio received a $2,030 grant to purchase replacement/maintenance sports equipment to maximize availability and usage for youth with disabilities.
Boys and Girls Club of Wooster received a $1,600 grant to support the activities of summer STEM week to reduce the acheivement gap between upper and lower income children during the educational “summer slide”.
Junior Achievement of North Central Ohio received a $750 grant for Junior Achievement programming in Wayne County to provide training for young people to become innovators and leaders of tomorrow.
Rails to Trails of Wayne County received a $620 grant for the Heartland Trail from Orrville to Marshallville.
All grants were made from the Wayne County Community Youth Foundation Fund that was established to provide YF student advisors with real world experiences in structured philanthropy and volunteerism. To date, YF students have made awards totaling over $27,000 to local non-profit organizations that serve Wayne County youth. This year’s student advisors, high school juniors representing 10 area school districts, met monthly at various youth service providers in the county. The deadline for grant applications for the new 2018-19 class is February 1. Online grant applications and guidelines are available at www.waynecountycommunityfoundation.org.
